Edea had her Sorceress powers from a very young age. She never had any children of her own, but ran an orphanage on the southern most tip of Centra. She married Cid Kramer, who also became her knight.
When the dying Sorceress, Ultimecia, appears from the future, Edea opts to absorb the Sorceress' powers, rather than let her pass them on to one of the children. This starts one of the biggest time paradoxes ever. |

Edea accidentally gives her Sorceress powers to Rinoa. Also, the idea and concept for SeeDs (ie. SeeD opposes the Sorceress etc.) actually came from a Time-Compression-displaced-Squall. During Time Compression, after the defeat of Ultimecia, he ends up fourteen years in the past, and tells Edea about SeeD, which Edea then told Cid about, and voila, ya got SeeDs coming out of three Gardens. |
