Where Angels Sing

By WanderingTonberry

These aching fingers clutch that piece of once powder white material, though it is now stained with blood. Blood of one whom was by no means innocent, but one who was so dear to my heart. You, beloved...Your blood...A piece of your coat...

My soul is shredded...Can you tell? Can you count the cuts on my wrists, sweet one? Yes, beloved...Can you? All these tiny little cuts, carefully made so that the most of my life essence could leave this tortured husk...But...But do you remember our happier times? I do...They sit there in the back of my mind, calling me...

After the opposing army captured me, I didn't lose my feelings for you. Sure there were some nice people here, and I would have returned...That is, if I hadn't started to care for these people like family. Call me weak beloved, I know you want to. Or at least that's what you would have said. I would love to hear you say it...Sweet, fiery beloved...

"Not here!" The smaller young man whispered as his lover pushed him up against the ballroom wall, hidden deep within a shadowed corner. He gazed blankly at the mop of flaming red hair, own eyes meeting a familiar pair the color of precious emeralds. His next breathy complaint was cut off by a rough kiss, one that left his knees in the same state as that pink jelly dessert a table or two away.

Slender fingers gripped Seed's white and crimson jacket, tugging him back. "How are we supposed to get away with this if you keep complaining, sweet one?" He grinned, his straight teeth looking impossibly white in their little hiding place.

"Sir Seed...I don't think we should be doing this at a coronation ball...Certainly-"

"Ah, ah...No formalities between us, Klaus. You know I can't stand all those formal titles. I think you just want to get out this. I don't plan to let you, though. You look just too delicious tonight. Just let me love you..."

Seed's lips brushed Klaus' gently, one hand working down the younger man's dress slacks with an ease that came only from handling a weapon with skill. The Flaming General of Highland listened to the little shy, yet definitely eager moans drifting from the young man beneath him. His Klaus was so beautiful in passion...Cheeks pinked, smooth lips parted, gasping for breath...

"Mmm...A-ah...Are you sure we can't go somewhere else?" Klaus murmured, too distracted to care anymore. Why not, he thought...

"And you can't give me anymore excuses because I came prepared." Seed fished a bottle of scented oil from his coat pocket, his own pants falling to his knees. He rubbed and prepped Klaus' opening with the lubricant, then eased himself into his lover's tight heat. He closed his eyes, nuzzling Klaus' neck as he panted at the sheer pleasure coursing through his frenzied veins. He started to move at Klaus' urgings. Emerald eyes lazily watched a myriad emotions flicker nakedly over his sweet one's unguarded features.

"A-hmm...Umm...H-harder..."

"You know you don't have to ask, Angel..."

Do you remember the day we stormed the castle? I know you would have berated me from emerging from the back lines...Saying that the place of a strategist was not on the battlefield, yet behind it, watching. You always tried to protect me, didn't you? I can't help but smile, thinking about all those times when you'd ride your proud stallion and rear him up in front of me, that cunning smile on your lips. You always knew how to make me blush...make me feel like a damsel...I believe that's what you called it. I could have hit you for calling me a woman. But it didn't really matter back then. I began to find it endearing; that's what you had meant it to be, isn't that right?

Well, that day...I-I...I rushed into the castle, my former home...No, our former home... L'Renouille... Yes, I went in looking for you. The gods must have been on my side, for nobody stopped me. I guess they were too busy trying to escape...That didn't stop me from plunging in after you. I found you, lying in the chamber, trying to protect that boy...The one who joined the army right after the Unicorn Brigade Massacre...He married Prince Luca's sister, do you remember? You wrote to me, didn't you? Yes...I still have the letters... Why did you have to die protecting him? It was your duty to Highland, wasn't it? I would have tried to sway that pride of yours...

I would have said things like, "If I could change my way of life, why can't you? Can't we just leave this place together?" But as you know beloved... As you listen to me from way up there amongst the angels...You'll know that I never had a chance to say those things...

I don't know if you heard me crying for you, or remember me being pulled from your body...Or the tears that wouldn't stop...The tears that fell into your beautiful hair of flames...Oh, beloved...

"No...gods...no...Please...Please wake up...Don't leave me here like this..." Klaus sobbed softly into the bloodied curve of Seed's neck, fingers shaking and petting his bruised cheek. "Don't leave me..." He pressed quivering lips to Seed's, his tears flowing more quickly when he got no response from the cooling flesh. "Let me join you, Beloved...We'll be together again shortly..."

Klaus removed the small dagger at his waist, making a clean cut down his wrist to his elbow. He whimpered softly, not one who enjoyed pain...But it would all be worth it...Anything would be better than the pain eating at his heart and soul. He cried out in agony and frustration as strong hands grabbed his wrists. He thrashed violently, intent on taking his life. He just couldn't live without Seed...

"No! No, let me go!!" He clawed in vain, trying to get to his beloved's body. His twitching fingers closed around a section of his dead lover's coat, a small piece ripping free. He continued to cry for Seed even as his comrades dragged him away; the material clutched in a death grip within his hand. His eyes were sightless, gazing back longingly for his deceased lover.

I'm dying slowly without your love to guide me...I fear that I shall end my short life...To join you, as I tried not so long ago before. Even if we don't go to the same place, I'll know that I would be closer to you there than here. But I can hope. I can hope that I will be with you...Be with you where angels sing...I-I was your angel...And will be again.

Klaus' thin frame shivered as a warm wind whipped up around him. He closed his brilliant amber eyes, spreading his arms. Slowly his feet found the stone ledge of the balcony...He would end this seething ache that resided where his heart used to be...End it all...Join his love in the glorious beyond.

He stood still a moment, his heart aching...His soul drowning in tears. But...What was this? Klaus shuddered, the wind wrapping him in a comforting embrace...He...He smelt cinnamon...

"...Seed..."
